David and Chris got married on June 11, 2005, in San Rafael, California, at the home of our dear friends Penn Mullen and George Fullerton.
The wedding involved a lot of planning. Fortunately, we had someone who was really great doing most of the heavy lifting: Kappi Hommert from Grace Under Pressure event planning. One of the first things we did was get together at Penn and George's house on a rainy January day for a couple of hours so Kappi could have a look and start to plan things out.
It was a little difficult to imagine how the space would look for a June wedding but as you will see in the rest of the photos, Penn and George made their place look really spectacular, and Kappi knew exactly what to do with the space.
The big day came before we knew it. Our friend Steve D. was so kind to give us a ride in his big old Lincoln to Penn and George's. We arrived at around 3.
That gave us some time to relax, hang out, see what was going on, greet some early arrivers, and get into the clothes were were wearing for the wedding. We got to watch our friends Constance and Felice decorate the place beautifully with Penn's help, check out what the caterers were doing, and watch our friend Joe from Destination Baking Co. in Glen Park assemble the cake.
The pictures in this section are from the time we arrived up until just before the ceremony.
Penn's garden had changed enormously from the previous time we had seen it in the winter. Everything was lush, as you would expect in June in Marin County. There was this incredible wall of purple flowers just behind the tables where people would sit down to eat their dinner. All kinds of flowers were everywhere all over the place. We can't even begin to describe what they were, but they sure were beautiful.
The pictures in this section are pictures that various photographers took in Penn's garden while it was still light outside.
Our ceremony began promptly at five PM and lasted about twenty minutes. Our friends Bruce and Joyce Huston did the honors, and Constance and Felice attended. Chris, David, Bruce, and Joyce all contributed to writing the ceremony, and it was really beautiful.
The pictures in this section were taken during the ceremony.
We had a lot of fun at the reception that followed the wedding. We unexpectedly had a reception line, which was something we didn't really think we were going to do but just ended up happening. Then there was music and a buffet supper.
It was really fun getting to see everyone after the ceremony, and to watch people interact from various different parts of our life that don't normally intersect.
The pictures in this section are from our reception party after the wedding.
Any set of wedding pictures would be incomplete without pictures of the ritual around the wedding cake: cutting the cake, stuffing cake in each other's mouth, and a toast to the couple.
The pictures in this section show all of those moments from our wedding party.
After the wedding, we spent the night in downtown San Francisco, then took off for a week in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We spent a leisurely and romantic week relaxing at the hotel, walking around this charming town, visiting art galleries, eating ourselves silly, and driving around in the nearby desert,
